Funnel Builder Free Trial Checklist: What to Test in 14 Days

Fourteen days is enough to find out whether a funnel builder fits, if the time is spent on the right tests. Here is a day-by-day checklist, the trial terms each vendor publishes and the limits to confirm before the first charge, from the official pricing pages as of October 2026.

Funnel Builder Free Trial Checklist: What to Test in 14 Days

ClickFunnels, GoHighLevel and Kartra each offer a 14-day trial, and systeme.io offers a free plan with no clock. Most trials expire with a half-built page and no answer to the only question that matters: will this platform run the business at the real contact count, domain count and send volume? This checklist, built from the vendors' pricing pages as read on October 10, 2026, assigns the tests to the days, quotes each vendor's terms on billing after the trial and lists the caps to confirm before the first charge. Where a page does not state a term, the checklist says so.

Read the trial terms before you enter a card

GoHighLevel is the most explicit. Its pricing page states "Billing begins automatically at the end of any free trial unless canceled," and that "usage-based fees for telecommunications or third-party services may apply during the trial." Sending test SMS during the trial can cost money.

ClickFunnels frames its trial as 44 risk-free days: a 14-day free trial plus a 30-day money-back guarantee after the trial ends, per its pricing FAQ. The guarantee covers the first paid month, not the year, so an annual plan bought on day 14 is refundable only inside the next 30 days.

Kartra lists "14 days free" on every tier and a "30-Day risk-free money back guarantee. Cancel anytime." Its pricing page does not describe what happens at the end of the trial beyond that. Assume automatic billing and set a calendar reminder for day 12.

systeme.io is the exception. Its pricing FAQ says "The free plan never expires and does not require a credit card." With 2,000 contacts and 3 funnels, it can host a real launch while the paid trials elsewhere run out.

Days 1 to 3: import real contacts and connect a real domain

Import the actual list, not a sample. Contact caps are the row most likely to force an upgrade, as explained in how to read a funnel builder pricing page. ClickFunnels Launch caps at 10,000 contacts, Kartra Essentials at 500, systeme.io Free at 2,000.

Connect a custom domain on day one, because DNS propagation can take a day and a funnel on a vendor subdomain tests nothing about deliverability or tracking. Kartra allows 1 domain on Essentials and Starter; ClickFunnels includes 5 on Launch; GoHighLevel's FAQ states domains connect to all funnels without a count.

Check the limit you will hit second. On ClickFunnels that is workspaces (1 on Launch) and courses (3). On Kartra Essentials it is 5 pages and 1 product. On GoHighLevel Starter it is 3 sub-accounts. Write the number down next to your actual requirement.

  • Day 1: connect the custom domain, verify SSL, import the real contact list.
  • Day 2: build the order form with an order bump and attach a real product and price.
  • Day 3: build the upsell and thank-you pages and confirm the funnel step order.

Days 4 to 7: run a real test purchase through every offer

Buy your own product with a real card at a low test price. Open the order form, tick the bump, accept the upsell, then repeat and decline it. The one-click behavior only appears after a genuine prior purchase, as covered in order bump versus upsell versus downsell.

Check the receipt against the fee lines. Kartra Essentials charges a 5% transaction fee per its comparison section; systeme.io and ClickFunnels state no percentage of sales. Processor fees from Stripe or PayPal apply everywhere and appear on none of the pricing pages, so read the processor dashboard too.

Then refund the test purchase and watch what the platform does: does the contact keep the buyer tag, does the course access revoke, does the automation fire a refund email? Those behaviors are rarely documented and only visible inside a trial.

Days 8 to 11: send the sequence and check the inbox, not the dashboard

Build the welcome sequence and send it to addresses on Gmail, Outlook and a work domain. Open each message on a phone. The steps for the rule and the delays are in how to build a welcome email sequence in a funnel builder.

Note the send allowance on the tier you are trialing. ClickFunnels Launch includes 50,000 emails per month per its pricing table. Kartra Essentials lists 10,000 emails and texts. systeme.io states unlimited email sends on all plans including Free. GoHighLevel meters email as usage billing.

On GoHighLevel, this is the point where trial charges can appear. Email, SMS, phone and premium AI are marked "Usage based charges apply" on the pricing page. Send a handful of test messages, then check the billing page the next day to see the rate you were actually charged.

Confirm the automation count your tier allows. systeme.io Free permits 1 automation rule. A welcome sequence, a purchase tag and an abandoned-cart reminder are three rules. If the trial tier cannot hold the automations the business needs, the test is already answered.

Days 12 to 14: price the real tier and decide before the clock does

By day 12 you know which cap breaks first. Price the tier that clears it, not the tier you trialed. Kartra Starter is $119 monthly or $99 annually for 2,500 contacts; ClickFunnels Scale is $197 or $164 for 75,000; GoHighLevel Unlimited is $297 or $2,970 a year for unlimited sub-accounts.

Add the add-ons you used. GoHighLevel lists AI Employee at $50 or $97 per sub-account, dedicated email IPs at $59 each and premium support at $500 per month, none of which appear in the plan cards. ClickFunnels and Kartra state their plans include everything with no add-ons.

Decide on monthly billing first. An annual plan locks the contact cap for twelve months, and the money-back windows above cover the first month only. Switch to annual once two or three billing cycles confirm the tier fits. Cancel on day 13 if the answer is no; GoHighLevel's page confirms cancellation is self-serve from the dashboard.

Frequently asked questions

Which funnel builders charge automatically when the trial ends?

GoHighLevel states on its pricing page that billing begins automatically unless canceled. ClickFunnels and Kartra each require a card for the 14-day trial and offer a 30-day money-back guarantee afterward; their pages do not spell out the end-of-trial charge but it should be assumed. systeme.io's free plan needs no card.

Can a free trial cost money before it ends?

On GoHighLevel, yes. The pricing page says usage-based fees for telecommunications or third-party services may apply during the trial, so test SMS and calls can be billed. ClickFunnels, Kartra and systeme.io do not list usage charges during their trials or free plan as of October 2026.

Is 14 days enough to test a funnel builder?

Yes, if the real list, a real domain and a real purchase go in during the first week. The tests that need more time, such as deliverability trends and month-two billing, are covered by the 30-day money-back windows at ClickFunnels and Kartra or by systeme.io's non-expiring free plan.

Should I buy the annual plan at the end of the trial?

Not yet. ClickFunnels discounts about 17% and Kartra up to 22% for annual billing by editorial calculation, but the plan locks the contact cap for a year and the money-back window covers only 30 days. Run two or three monthly cycles first.

Bottom line

Spend the trial on the three things a demo cannot show: the real list against the contact cap, a real purchase through every offer, and a real sequence landing in real inboxes. Note the first limit that breaks and price the tier above it.

Set the cancellation reminder for day 12 and choose monthly billing at first. Every term and price above comes from the vendors' pricing pages on October 10, 2026, and all four change them without notice.
